According to a new study, the significant rise in Chinese Co² emissions seems directly related to the construction of buildings, power plants and streets.  The rapidly growing volume of infrastructure investments has caused an expansion within the building sector as well as in its energy and CO²-intensive supply chain, such as the steel and cement industries.

The problem of wastewater management in Mexico City is to be solved thanks to a massive construction project. Once complete in 2013, the Atotonilco wastewater treatment plant will be one of the biggest in the world. Around 60% of the wastewater from Mexico City, which has a population of approximately 23 million, will be treated here. With a total length of 62 km, the sewage system will be one of the longest tunnel constructions in the world. The construction of the “Emisor Oriente”, which will cost more than $1 billion, will also receive support from Germany in the form of three Herrenknecht tunnelling machines. On the 18th of April, the project received the Global Water Award 2011 in Berlin.
